Registration of Deeds. A letter in read from the Registrar of Deeds stating that the recent increase of sales of lands and houses had thrown a large amount of additional work on his department, and that some delay of registration must at times occur, although ! additional officers, transferred from other -duties, are employed in the comparison of deeds and memorials. reply was Obituary. MR. GEORGE MC!LDOWIE, Solicitor, died upon the 24th July, 1919, at Belfast. Mr. Mclldowie served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. John G. Shaw, Belfast, was admitted in Easter Sittings, 1883, and practised in partnership with his brother, Mr. William Mclldowie, under the style of Messrs. George Mclldowie and Sons, at 26 Cornmarket, Belfast. MR. R. FREDERIC RINGWOOD, Solicitor, died upon the 16th January, 1920, at 4 Hargrave Terrace, Terenure Road, Dublin. Mr. Ringwood served his apprenticeship with Mr. R. E. McLean, 23 Chichester Street, Belfast, was admitted in Easter Sittings, 1894, and practised at Belfast up to 1905, when he retired. MR. PATRICK J. GRANT, Solicitor, died upon the 27th January, 1920, at London. Mr. Grant served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. James Goff, 1 Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin, was admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1895, and practised formerly at 14 Dame Street, Dublin, and subsequently at Carrickmacross, up tc 1910, when he retired. MR. BARTON G. BARTON, Solicitor, died upon the 31st January, 1920, at his residence Supermare, Killiney, County Dublin. Mr. Barton served his apprenticeship with Mr. Alexander C. Cameron, 6 Dawson Street, Dublin, was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1904, and practised as a member of the firm of Messrs. Orpen and Sweeny, at 33 Anglesea Street, Dublin.

Legal Appointments. The Lord Chancellor has appointed Mr. James Robinson, 119 Stephen's Green, W., to be the General Solicitor for Lunatics in Ireland ; and Mr. Frank V. Gordon, 5 Clare Street, to be the General Solicitor for Minors in Ireland, in room of Sir Augustine F. Baker, who has resigned the office, General Solicitor for Minors and Lunatics in Ireland. New Members. The following joined the Society during January :— Percival H. Browne, 46 Kildare Street, Dublin. Maurice J. Woulfe, Abbeyfeale. Commissioners to Administer Oaths. The Lord Chancellor has appointed the following Solicitors to be Commissioners to administer Oaths:— Robert H. Commins, 79 Dame Street, Dublin. v Albert E. Davis, 21 St. Andrew Street, Dublin. War Memorial. The work in connection with- the Bronze Tablet to be erected in the Solicitors' Buildings to the memory of those Irish Solicitors and Apprentices who gave their lives in the war is being proceeded with by Mr. Oliver Sheppard, R.H.A. The following subscriptions received since the publication of the list in the Society's GAZETTE of last August are acknowledged :— Half a guinea from J. G. Reid. One pound each from F. C. D.
