KNOW YOUR COUNCIL 1984/85

Joseph R. Sweeney Joseph R. Sweeney was educated at St. Ignatius College S.J., Galway and U.C.G. He was apprenticed to his father Prof. J.M.G. Sweeney, Solicitor, Athenry, Co. Galway and on qualifying in 1973 worked with the firms of Miley & Miley in Dublin, Eoin C. Daly & Co., in Cork and from 1977 was a partner in O'Donnell Dundon & Co., in Limerick. He commenced practice on his own behalf in 1980 and amalgamated with Michael D. Murray & Co., and was joined by his brother David J. Sweeney as a partner. He was first elected to the Council in 1983 but had been a member of the Conveyancing Committee since 1977. As a Council member he served on the Conveyancing, Registrar's, Professional Purposes and Compensation Committees and is currently serving as Chairman to both the Younger Members Committee and the Technology Committee.

Vincent Crowley Vincent Crowley was educated at St. Paul's College, Raheny and U.C.D. and qualified in 1975. He worked for three years in Carrick-on- Shannon and one year in a commercial firm in Dublin before commencing a partnership under the name of Collins Crowley & Co., 77 Merrion Square, Dublin 2. Elected to the Council in 1984 he presently serves on the Registrars Committee and Litigation Committee. He also serves as Public Relations Officer of the Association of Criminal Lawyers and Treasurer of Forum. He would welcome representations from Solicitors as to the issues they feel Council should be dealing with.

Ken Murphy Ken Murphy, at 28 years of age, is both the youngest member and the only Assistant Solicitor on the Council. Since first elected in 1983 he has served on more than a dozen of the Society's Committees and Sub- Committees including Registrar's, Compensation Fund, Public Relations and Professional Purposes. In addition he has been a member of the Organising Committee of the Society of Young Solicitors for the last year and a half. He was educated at Terenure College and at U.C.D. where he obtained an Honours B.A. Degree in English and Philosophy. At College he was prominent in the L & H and other debating societies while also twice touring the United States with the Soccer Club. On qualifying as a Solicitor he worked initially as a Conveyancer but for the last two years has specialised in Litigation with the firm of A. & L. Goodbody. He says the proudest moment of his life was playing for the Solicitors Soccer Team in their glorious 4-2 victory over the Barristers in the annual challenge match last December.
