If the Convention does not apply in Ireland, Irish Shipowners and their Insurers will be deprived of the benefit of limitation in foreign jurisdictions. From inquiries which have been made the Society is concerned that no adequate steps may be in train to accede to and ratify the 1976 Convention. The Society have accordingly requested me to write to you to express this concern, to point out the benefits of accession and ratification and to inquire as to the intentions of the Government in the matter. I would gladly provide any further information or comment which you may require and look forward to hearing form you at the earliest opportunity on this very important subject.
