Delays in Registry of Births, Marriages and Deaths THE Council considered complaints of delays in obtaining certificates of births, marriages and deaths in the General Registry Office and it was resolved that the Secretary should take up the matter with the Department. Professor of Equity, Real Property and Conveyancing THE Council appointed Mr. Brendan P. O'Byrne, Solicitor, of 46 Fleet Street, Dublin, to be Professor of Equity, Real Property and Conveyancing in place of Mr. F. W. Gilligan, whose term of office has expired. Applications under Section 47 Six applications from solicitors for leave to obtain practising certificates were considered and granted on payment of the current duty. A number of matters were considered and referred to Committees for reports. SOLICITORS (IRELAND) ACT, 1898, ADAPTATION ORDER, 1946 THE Government, in exercise of the powers con– ferred on them by section 12 of the Adaptation of Enactments Act, 1922 (No. 2 of 1922) (as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Con– stitution), and section 5 of the Constitution (Con– sequential Provisions) Act, 1937 (No. 40 of 1937), hereby order as follows : 1. This Order may be cited as the Solicitors (Ireland) Act, 1938, Adaptation Order, 1946. 2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order. M. FitzGerald THE President referred to the resignation from the Council of Mr. E. M. FitzGerald on the ground of his inability to attend at meetings of the Council owing to special reasons. It was resolved that the Secretary should convey to Mr. FitzGerald their thanks for his services on the Council and their regret at losing him as a colleague. The President welcomed Mr. Joseph Barrett who came on the Council from the supplemental list in place of Mr. FitzGerald. Mr. Barrett, who was present, thanked the President. Solicitors' Bill THE Secretary read a letter from the Department of Justice on the subject of the Solicitors' Bill, stating that the Government had decided to adopt the Bill as a Government measure, subject to discussion between representatives from the Council and the Minister for Justice on the subject of a fund to indemnify clients against solicitors' defalca– tions. A deputation was appointed to interview the Minister on 24th July. Proposed New Criminal Courts THE Council adopted a report from a Committee making recommendations to an Inter-Departmental Committee, under the chairmanship of Mr. Justice Davitt, which is at present considering suggestions for a new block of buildings in the vicinity of the Four Courts to accommodate all the Criminal Courts.
