He was a member of the Council of the Society from 1918 to 1924, and Vice- President of the Society for the year 1921-22. MR. ALEXANDER D. ORR, Solicitor, died on the 30th January, 1934. Mr. Orr served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. John A. French, Dublin ; was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1900, and practised at 5 Foster Place, Dublin, under the style of Beauchamp and Orr. He had been a member of the Council of the Society for thirteen years, and was President of the Society for the year 1930-31. Miscellaneous Professional Information. Francis C. Earle Bland has retired from practice, and the business of the firm of Anderson and Bland, under which title he practised at 10 Saint Stephen's Green, Diablin, is being carried on under that title and at that address by Robert B. \/olfe, of 10 Saint Stephen's Green, and Joseph C. Erskine, of 19 Kildare Street, who have entered into partnership. Thomas W. Franks, who has hitherto practised at 17 Ely Place, Dublin, under the title of Norman and Franks, has joined the firm of Franks and Oulton, 21 Lower Fitz- william Street, Dublin. UNQUALIFIED PERSON PRETENDING TO BE QUALIFIED TO ACT AS A SOLICITOR. At the Dublin District Court, before District Justice O'Sullivan, on 22nd January, 1934, Edward Mark Brady, carrying on business under the business name of " The Irish Traders' Association," at 14/15 Saint Andrew Street, Dublin, was summoned by the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland, under Section 53 of the Solicitors (Ireland) Act, 1898, for wilfully and falsely pretending to be qualified to act as a Solicitor. Mr. Phelps, K.C. (instructed by Mr. E. H. Burne), appeared for the Incorporated Law Society ; Mr. J. W. Lane, Solicitor, appeared for the Defendant. Mr. Phelps read to the Court the letters to an alleged debtor with regard to the writing of which by the Defendant the proceedings were taken, and which stated :

" We have been instructed by above " member to collect this account, and unless " we receive a remittance from you by return " of post we shall take other steps to effect " recovery. Please note that all corres- " pondence must be addressed to us, and all " cheques, postal orders, etc., crossed and " made payable to the Irish Traders' Associa- " tion. Yours faithfully, for the Irish " Traders' Association." " Urgent. . . . Sir, your account is " being passed into the Legal Department. " An immediate reply is necessary. Yours " faithfully, for the Irish Traders' Associa- " tion." "Amount due, £8 9s. 3d. and part " expenses." " Dear Sir. In reply to yours, undated, " received here on the 29th ult., we put same " before our members, who reply that they " can only deal with you as the other parties " do not concern them. All transactions have " passed through you. We shall proceed on " the 21st inst. if your cheque for the full " amount is not to hand. Yours faithfully, " for the Irish Traders' Association." Mr. Lane admitted a technical offence on behalf of the defendant, who had, through his solicitor, previous to the hearing, apologised to the Society and undertaken to pay costs. The District Justice stated that having regard to the fact that there had been no previous conviction against defendant, and that he had apologised, he would deal with the case under the Probation of Offenders Act, the defendant to enter into a bond to be of good behaviour for two years under a recognisance of £5 and to come up for judgment when called on if there was a breach of the bond, the defendant also to pay £25 costs to the Society.
