MR. JAMES H. POWELL, Solicitor, died upon the 27th September, 1927, at his residence, Riverside, Dunmanway. Mr. Powell was admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1887, and practised at Dunmanway. MR. SAMUEL JONES, Solicitor, died upon the 30th October, 1927, at Farnham Street, Cavan. Mr. Jones was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1880, and practised at Cavan. He was District Probate Registrar for the Counties of Cavan and Longford, and for the Baronies of Leitrim, Mohill and Carrigallen, in County Leitrim. —— MR. FREDERICK S. D. DE V. WHITE, Solicitor, died in London, on 28th October, 1927. Mr. White served his apprenticeship with Mr. Charles J. E. Sutton, Dublin, and was admitted in Michaelmas Sittings, 1904. Mr. White was for some years Assistant Solicitor, and subsequently Solicitor to the Midland Great \Vestern Railway Company at Broadstone Terminus, Dublin. Upon the amalgamation of the Southern Railways he was appointed Assistant Solicitor, and recently Solicitor, to the Great Southern Railways, at Kingsbridge Terminus, Dublin. Mr. White was Professor of Common Law to the Society from 1914 to 1919. New Members. The following have joined the Society :— Michael J. Alien, Galway. Denis J. Bergin, 7 Suffolk Street, Dublin. The Council invite applications from Barristers and Solicitors for the office of Special Examiner to the Society. The duties of the office consist of examining in all subjects at the Intermediate and Final

Examinations for apprentices to Solicitors, in conjunction with another Examiner. The Council will appoint two such Examiners in January next. Further particulars can be obtained from the Secretary. The competition for the Cup presented by the Council of the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland was held at Portmarnock, on the 6th October. Forty-two members competed, and the following were the best cards returned :— H. H. Maxwell, nett 73. Winner. B. Collins, nett 75. 2nd Prize. Desmond J. Collins, gross 83. Prize for best gross score. J. A. Denning, nett 76. C. O'Brien, nett 77. In the afternoon there was a foursome sweepstakes, which was won by D. R. Pigot and D. J. Collins, 2 down ; P. C. Furlong and T. Hayes being second with 3 down. In the evening a dinner, presided over by the Captain, Mr. Charles O'Brien, was held in the Clubhouse. Examinations Results.
