Law School has been such a success in terms of bringing together lawyers and other professionals to discuss topics of interest. It is from this discussion, in the tradition of the old law schools, that progress will be made in developing our legal structures. It is little recognised how developed our legal system was in Medieval Ireland. The lawyer played a very important role and was a prominent participant in the social life of the period. This tradition continues today and is something we can be proud of. Perhaps we forget the contribution we have made and are making to society. We owe a great deal of our knowledge of this period to the work of Professor Daniel Binchy, a compiler of "The Corpus Iuris Hibernici". His descendants are well known solicitors practising today. Others now carry on his valuable research. The Burren Law School 1996 is devoted to the theme of "The Child in Irish Law" and will take place from 19 to 21 April 1996 at The Burren College, Newtown- castle, Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare. 1. Professor Richard Woulfe retired as Director of Education of the Law School last June after sixteen years of service. In recognition of his contribution to the Law School, the Law Society is sponsoring an essay named after Professor Woulfe for solicitors' apprentices. 2.
