Serving the music industry in Ireland

All business people in tune with the laws of copyright know that before they can use music to enhance the ambience of their places of business (e.g., hotels restaurants, supermarkets, dance halls, and internal telephone "HOLD" music) they must first obtain a licence from the Irish Music Rights Organisation, (cf. Copyright Act 1963) This step is not merely the negative one of avoiding prosecution. By doing so they, in effect, employ IMRO to act on their behalf in determining the origin and status of any music performed publicly by them as a business aid and allocat- ing royalties accordingly. So, as well as representing the "consumers" of music IMRO also serves the "Producers", i.e., composers, lyric writers, and music publishers. Thus, through these basic services IMRO brings harmony to the marketplace At a very modest cost.
