International Bar Association Section on Business Law
The International Bar Association's Section on Business Law will hold its 7th Biennial Conference in Singapore from 30 September to 4 October 1985.

The SBL's specialised committees will present a series of studies in international legal problem solving, including a simulated arbitration of a construction dispute and case studies of the Eastern Scheldt Project and the negotiation of a transnational record licensing agreement. Distinguished practitioners from six continents will consider such topical developments in international business law as joint-venture construction projects, recognition of foreign exchange control regulations, decommisioning nuclear power plants, barter and countertrade, trading in special and quasi- securities, and the UN's legal guide for international industrial works projects. The Conference will focus in part on matters of relevance to Asia and the Pacific Rim, such as interna- tional dispute resolution in the People's Republic of China, settlement of maritime claims in Singapore, environmental protection in Southeast Asia, company and partnership law in selected Asian countries, insurance in Southeast Asia, mass transit in Singapore and Hong Kong, harmonisation of laws in ASEAN, taxation regimes in the Asian Pacific, trading Asian dollar securities in Singapore and Hong Kong, and franchising in the Pacific Rim. The Section on Energy and Natural Resources Law will also conduct a one-day regional seminar on joint development of resource projects, environmental protec- tion, and strikes in the mining industry. A varied social programme will feature a city orientation tour, an evening at the Chinese Gardens, a twilight dinner cruise, and the Section Dinner Dance at the Shangri-La. World Express Pte Ltd of Singapore offers a number of day excursions in and around the island city, and post- conference tours may be booked through them to Malaysia, the Phillippines, Thailand and Bali.
