A National House Building Guarantee Scheme 9 LEESON PARK, DUBLIN 6. Tel.: 9 7 7 4 87 The NHBGS is the organisation set up by the Construction Industry Federation, and the Irish House Builders Association, with the co-operation of the Department of the Environment. NHBGS registers the dwellings built for sale and under contract, in the private sector, by its members. These dwellings, when completed, qualify for the Six-Year Structural Guarantee Certificate of NHBGS. N.H.B.G.S. is a control body which uses its influence and discipline to ensure that, by inspection at various stages, houses are built and finished to fair and reasonable standards. As well as overseeing the work and workmanship N.H.B.G.S. underwrites the structure of the house. If a builder cannot, for financial or other reasons, make the necessary repair of major structural defects, within a time scale set by the Scheme, then the N.H.B.G.S. pays to have the work undertaken. The Scheme is a vital protection for the purchaser and for the fair-minded builder, it can also help to resolve some of the difficult problems of disputes in the sale of new houses. NHBGS announces the publication of the first edition of the REGISTER. This booklet lists the names of all those Builders who are Members of the Scheme. Copies may be obtained at a cost (including postage) of 40p plus 8p VAT from NHBGS, 9 Leeson Park, Dublin 6. Should Solicitors require any information regarding the Scheme, its Rules, Agreements and other documentation, it will be sent on request. The NHBGS Register is made available to Building Societies, Banks, Central Libraries, Advice Centres, Professional Bodies and various organisations involved with or interested in private sector housing matters.
