COUNCIL NOTES The meetings on 20th July, and 31st August, 1978, the following developments were reported and decisions taken:— E.E.C. & International Affairs At the suggestion of Mr. John Moloney, the Society's representative on the Commission Consultative des Barreaux de la Communaute Europeene, the Commission has agreed to provide an Identity Card for use by lawyers in E.E.C. countries. The formal inauguration of the Card will take place at the forthcoming meeting of the Commission in October. The Society will be stocking Cards which can be obtained by persons holding practising certificates, at a cost of 50p each. Parliamentary Matters The Society's suggested amendments to the Succession Act, 1965, have been submitted to the Law Reform Commission and to the Minister for Justice. A submission is being made to the Minister for Finance on the Capital Gains Tax (Amendment) Bill, 1978. Annual Conference, 3rd-6th May, 1979 Next year the Conference will be held in the Great Southern Hotel, Galway. The programme, which should be available in January, 1979, will include symposia on topics of current interest and discussions on resolutions submitted by Bar Associations and individual members of the Society. Members wishing to submit resolutions should forward the text in each case to Mr. J. F. Buckley, Conference Director, as soon as possible. It is envisaged that the proposer of each resolution will speak to it and that, where appropriate, a vote will be taken following discussion from the floor. Publication of Statutes and Statutory Instruments Following correspondence and discussions with the Stationery Office, representations have been made to the Minister for Finance regarding the difficulty of obtaining the official texts as soon as the statutes are enacted or regulations made. File References The Council asks that all offices use the appropriate file reference when dealing with another firm, so as to expedite the conduct of business. Representations to this effect have also been made to Government Departments. Publications The Society's Publications Committee announces the publication of the following books in the near future: Irish Conveyancing Law by J. C. W. Wylie A Guide to the Planning Acts by K. I. Nowlan. The attention of members is drawn to the new form of undertaking — a sample is enclosed with this issue of the Gazette. The revision of the standard form of Requisitions on Title is now completed. The revised edition is expected to be available from the printers in about 4 weeks.
