Trade Unions Where the executive cou.xil of an amalgamated trade union has been paralysed by reason of disputes between its component parts, so that it is unable to perform its functions in litigation involving its members, and the litigation touches or concerns union property, the union's trustees are empowered under Section 9 of the Trades Unions Act, 1871, to authorize solicitors to take all necessary steps for the union's protection in such litigation. [Keys and another v Boulter and others; Court of Appeal.] Words and Phrases A company whose business is the preparation of meals in factories and their delivery to airlines for consumption on aircraft was held not to be liable for the levy under the Industrial Training Act, 1964, because the activities not within scope as "the supply in the course of any business of food or drink to persons for immediate consumption" in paragraph 1 (a) of the schedule to the Industrial Training (Hotel and Catering Board) Order, 1966. Services Ltd. v Hotel and Catering Industry Training Board; Court of Appeal; 15 October 1970.] The meaning of "national origins" as a prohibited ground of discrimination in Section 1 (1) of the Race Relations Act, 1968, was argued in the action by Baling London Borough Council for a declaration that the council's rule limiting applications for housing accom modation to British subjects was not unlawful.
