need for industrial adaptation to conditions of freer trade and outlining the measures towards that end which may require to be taken by individual firms and industries as well as the various forms of State financial assistance available for that purpose. Copies have been sent to manufacturing firms throughout the country and the Department have requested the Society to suggest to its members' that they should use any contacts they may have with the manage ments of industrial firms to emphasise the urgent necessity for adaptation to meet the competition which will arise from freer trading conditions. Copies of the brochure are obtainable free of charge from the offices of the Department of Industry and Commerce (Room 208), Kildare Street, Dublin. TURNOVER TAX The Revenue Commissioners have issued a short booklet entitled Guide to the Turnover Tax. The booklet is intended for the information of the public in general as it sets out in very simple terms the principles of the tax and the requirements to be fulfilled by all persons affected by it. However, it will be useful to any member who wishes to get a clear overall picture of the tax and its operation. Many members will no doubt in the coming weeks be called upon to advise their clients- who find themselves affected by the tax. The booklet is available free of charge on application to any post office or income tax office. SOCIETY'S DINNER DANCE The Society's Annual Dinner Dance will be held as usual this year on the same date as the Autumn Ordinary General Meeting, that is to say November 2ist, 1963 and it will be in the Shelbourne Hotel. PENSION ANNUITY SCHEME A pension sickness and, accident insurance •scheme is available to members of the Society. It was arranged by the Society with Irish Pensions Trust Limited in or about the end of 1961 and at that time a booklet containing details of the schemes available were circulated to all members. A copy of the booklet may be had from Irish Pensions Trust Limited and all enquiries for further information should be directed to the Trust.
