RECRUITMENT OF THIRD SECRETARIES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS. PRELIMINARY NOTICE. The Civil Service Commissioners, 45 Upper O'Connell Street, Dublin, give notice that a competition for not fewer than four vacancies as Third Secretary in the Department of External Affairs will begin in May, 1947. AGE LIMITS : 21-26 years on ist January, 1947, with an extension of the upper age limit in certain cases. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, (a) An Honours University Degree or an equivalent qualification, (b) a good general knowledge of Irish History and of modern social conditions in Ireland, (c) a good knowledge of Irish (oral and written). DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS : (i) A general knowledge of world political affairs from and including the period of the French Revolution, (ii) a good knowledge of one or two of the following languages : French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Swedish. The Salary Scales will be the same as for Administrative Officers in the Civil Service. A FURTHER ANNOUNCEMENT WILL APPEAR IN THE DAILY PRESS AS SOON AS THE REGULATIONS AND APPLICATION FORMS ARE AVAILABLE. (N.B. It is understood that a pass in the Solicitors' Final Examination with a standard satisfactory to the Commissioners will be taken as the equivalent of an Honours University Degree. Any solicitor requiring a certificate as to his marks may obtain same from the Secretary, Incorporated Law Society of Ireland.)
