The following was among the business transacted : Arbitrations under Post Office Savings Banks Acts The Council considered a report from a Com– mittee on the position in arbitrations arising out of disputes between depositors and the Post Office Savings Bank. The Acts under which the arbitra– tions are conducted do not give power to the arbitrator to award costs. The Committee reported that this is a hardship on depositors and recom– mended that the matter should be taken up with the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs. The report of the Committee was adopted.

Agricultural Credit Bill, 1946 THE Council considered a report from a Comtnittec to which the above Bill had been referred. The Committee reported that the Bill contains a number of objectionable provisions. The chief provision in the Bill to which exception was taken was the section under which the Agricultural Credit Cor– poration is to be empowered to recover moneys due to the Corporation by sending a certificate of the amount due, under the seal of the Corporation, to the County Registrar who will be able to levy execution without the order of any Court. The Committee reported that the Secretary had written to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Department of Finance asking for an interview for repre– sentatives of the Council to urge that this Section should be withdrawn. The report of the Com– mittee was adopted. International Bar Association THE Council considered and adopted a report front a Committee of the Council recommending that the Society should not accept the invitation
