AN application from an intending apprentice seeking exemption from the Preliminary examination was considered. It was decided not to oppose the application. Costs of lease. THE Council was asked, on a statement of facts submitted by the solicitors acting for the lessor and
lessee of certain premises, to decide whether the lessee was liable to pay, as part of the lessor's costs, two sums of three guineas each paid by the lessor respectively to an engineer and a valuer for report ing on the condition of the premises and making a valuation thereof for the purpose of fixing the rent. The lessee was in occupation and the lease was being made in pursuance of the Landlord and Tenant Act, 1931. The Council decided that the lessee was not liable for either fee. Condition of Country Courthouses THE Council appointed a special committee con sisting of solicitors on the Council who act for local authorities to report on the steps which should be. taken to bring to the attention of the appropriate authorities the necessity of providing adequate Court accommodation throughout the country, and the unsatisfactory condition of many of the present Courthouses.
