The following were among the matters discussed : Solicitors Bill THE Council considered a report from the Bill Committee on a reference to consider making proposals for the establishment of a Compensation or Indemnity Fund for clients, should it be necessary to include such provisions in the Bill to insure its passage through the Dail and Senate. The report of the Committee recommended that if such pro– visions are necessary they should be on the lines of the Compensation Fund established by the English Law Society. The report was referred back to the Committee for reconsideration.

Trustee Acts THE Council considered and adopted a report from the Legislation and Privileges Committee containing suggestions for a consolidated list of authorised Trustee Investments and making recommendations for general amendments in the law relating to Trustees. It was ordered that a copy of the report should be sent to the Department of Justice. THE Council considered a report from a Committee arising out of the recent interview between the Minister for Local Government and Public Health . and representatives from the Council. The de– putation had submitted to the Minister that in any case in which a solicitor for a public body is ap– pointed on terms that the legal business of the public body shall be carried on in an office main– tained by him at his own expense, his remuneration should be by way of taxed costs and not by way of salary. The Minister, after listening to the repre– sentations made by the deputation, informed them 5 Terms of appointment of solicitors to Local Authorities
