OBITUARY. MR. HARCOURT H. JONES, Solicitor, died upon the 2nd May, 1928, at his residence, 3 Wilmont Terrace, Belfast. Mr. Jones served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. William B. Galway, Belfast ; was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1903, and practised at 4 Donegall Square, North, Belfast. MR. VALENTINE KILBRIDE, Taxing Master of the Courts of Justice, Saorstat Eireann, in Trinity Term, 1877, and practised at 1 Dame Street, Dublin, and Athy, up to 1913, in which year he was appointed Taxing Master. NEW MEMBERS. The following have joined the Society :— Patrick J. Branigan, Drogheda. James Cody, Bagenalstown. Alexander \Y. Hughes, 3 Lower Merrion Street, Dublin. Hewitt B. Jellett, 10 Ely Place, Dublin. Charles Louth, Arklow. George Martin, Belfast. John P. J. Smyth, 3 Dame Street, Dublin. GIFTS TO THE SOCIETY. Sir John O'Connell, LL.D., who for some years was a member of the Council, has presented to the Society a President's Chair. The chair is in mahogany, and is of very handsome design and elaborately carved. A silver plate on the chair bears the following inscription :— Presented to The Incorporated Law Society of Ireland by SIR JOHN O'CONNELL, LL.D., in grateful appreciation of many kindnesses received from the Council by both his father, the late Thomas Francis O'Connell, Vice- President of the Society 1895-96, and by himself, Vice-President of the Society, 1923-24. 1928. The chair was designed by Mr. R. Caulfield Orpen, R.H.A., and manufactured by Mr. J ames Hicks. died upon the 29th May, 1928. Mr. Kilbride was admitted

SOLICITORS' GOLFING SOCIETY. The Competition for the Society's Cup was held at Portmarnock (by kind permission), on Tuesday, the 6th June. Fifty-two mem bers took part, with the following result :— James O'Connor, 89-14-75, winner of Cup. G. Grove White, 88-12-76, 2nd prize. D. J. Collins, 81-4-77, prize for best gross score. B. Collins, 102-24-78, prize for member of handicap 20 and over. P. Glynn, 88-11-77. J. A. Denning, 94-17-77. T. Purefoy, 95-17-78. The four-ball sweepstakes were won by P. Tallan and D. R. Pigot with 5 up ; E. S. Lowe and James O'Connor tieing with T. V. Davy and P. C. Furlong, for 2nd place with 3 up. The Annual General Meeting was held in the evening, the President of the Incor porated Law Society in the chair. The following were elected officers for the coming year:— President—The President of the Incor porated Law Society of Ireland. Captain—Mr. J. J. Sheil. Committee—Messrs. R. G. Warren, Basil Thompson, P. M. Seales, C. O'Brien and J. T. Hamerton. Hon. Secretary—Mr. H. Horan.
