with Mr. Terence Byrne under the style of Meehan and Byrne, at Maryborough, up to 1926, when he was appointed County Registrar for the County of Leix. He was a member of the Council of the Society during the years 1916-18 and 1926. MR. RICHARD HAYES, Solicitor, died upon the 27th July, 1929, at St. Ann's Hill Hydro, Blarney. Mr. Hayes served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. Francis Hodder, Cork; was admitted in Michaelmas Term, 1868, and practised at Cork, up to 1920, when he retired. __ MR. JOHN McCoRMiCK, Solicitor, died upon the 28th July, 1929, at his residence, Cray Royston, Cherryvalley, Knock, Co. Down. Mr. McCormick served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. William E. Armstrong, Belfast ; was admitted in Michaelmas Sittings, 1886, and practised at Belfast. He had been for some years Solicitor to the Belfast Corporation. Appointments. Mr. John Kelly, Solicitor, Westport, has been appointed County Registrar for County Mayo, in room of the late Mr. Michael V. Coolican. __ Mr. William X. White, Solicitor, has been appointed County Registrar for Leix, in room of the late Mr. P. J. Meehan.

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.

llth July, 1929. Twenty-one Members present. Legal Practitioners (Qualification) Act. A copy of this Act, as passed, was- sub mitted. The Council referred the Act to the Court of Examiners to report to the Council as to the steps necessary to be taken by the Council to bring the Act into operation so far as it relates to the Solicitors' profession. Certificates. Applications under Section 47 by two Solicitors for renewal of their Certificates were dealt with. Circuit Court Procedure. A letter in reply from the Minister for Justice was read, stating he would put before the Rule-making Committee the views of the Council on the subject of the detention of documents by County Registrars. Adjournment. The Council adjourned until 3rd October, unless otherwise specially summoned. OBITUARY. MR. PATRICK J. MEEHAN, Solicitor, died upon the 5th July, 1929, at his residence, Annebrook, Maryborough, Co. Leix. Mr. Meehan was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1900, and practised in partnership
